Minivan Sales In America December 2014 And 2014 Year End

Sales of minivans rose 4.5% in the United States in calendar year 2014, climbing to 556,548 over the course of the last twelve months. This was the best year for minivans since 2008.

Propelled by the segments two top sellers - Windsor, Ontario-built twins - minivan volume increased by 24,191 units compared with 2013. The Chrysler Town & Country was Americas best-selling minivan in 2014; the Dodge Grand Caravan ranked second.

Last years leader, the Honda Odyssey, slid to fourth. The Toyota Sienna ranked third. The Volkswagen Routan disappeared. The Mazda 5 will soon.

Chrysler and Dodge combined for 48.9% market share over the last year, up from 46.3% in 2013.

Although Canadian sales of the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class SUV fell 3% in 2014 in a booming SUV market, GL sales were still at the second-highest level in the nameplates history.

Moreover, the GL was still far more popular than other flagship luxury SUVs like the Infiniti QX80, Land Rover Range Rover, Lexus LX570, Lincoln Navigator, and the family of new Cadillac Escalades.

Escalade volume became much healthier as the year went along, particularly if we exclude the EXT pickup truck from the equation, a vehicle which was available in 2013 but not in 2013. Combined sales of the regular-wheelbase Escalade and the long-wheelbase Escalade ESV rose 41% to 821 units.

The BMW 3-Series was Canadas best-selling premium brand vehicle in 2014 despite the loss of a large chunk of its product range.

Two-door cars which were formerly part of the 3-Series lineup now fall under the 4-Series banner.

Together, the 3er and 4er were up 4% even as the overall car market fell flat.

2014 was marked by the arrival of new entry-level Germans. The BMW 2-Series was as rare as the 1-Series it replaced.
But Mercedes-Benz sold 3851 CLAs in 2014.

Audi sold all of its 2452 A3s in the final three-quarters of 2014.

Genesis sales figures here do not include sales of the Genesis Coupe (as Hyundais U.S. Genesis sales figures do), making the comparison with premium brand vehicles much more valid.

As pickup truck sales jumped 18% in December 2014 to nearly 240,000 units, full-size nameplates owned 88.9% of the overall truck category. Indeed, with 211,238 full-size sales in December of this year, the core six full-size nameplates sold more often than all pickup trucks did at this time a year ago.

Despite the Ford F-Series predictable decline (slight, at just -0.3%), full-size sales jumped by 30,522 units thanks to huge increases from the Silverado, Ram, and Sierra. GMs twins outsold the F-Series by 6918 units.

GM also managed to sell 5570 copies of their smaller trucks, the Colorado and Canyon. This resulted in 86,843 total GM truck sales in America in December 2014, 31.6% of the automakers total December volume.
